Black Milk rocked the house last night at Southpaw for the first of three scheduled Album of the Year release parties. Starting the night off right was DJ Spinna and opening for Black were fellow Detroit heavy hitters, Elzhi and Guilty Simpson, and NY’s own Sean Price. Drummer Daru Jones, keyboardist/singer AB and bassist Malik joined Black on stage to put forth an amazing performance that led spectators to tweet that “Southpaw might have had the best hip hop show of the entire year” and that Black was “killing Southpaw.”

As if that wasn’t enough, Black was joined on stage by Pharoahe Monch and Sean P for their first unified performance of “The Matrix”; by Elzhi for their first live performance of “Deadly Medley”; and by Guilty Simpson for “Sound the Alarm.” Roc Marciano also joined Sean P on stage for “Snow”. Numerous other hip-hop heavy hitters were in attendance including Talib Kweli, Jean Grae, Rah Digga (whose album Classic dropped the same day) and Jay Electronica, who Black brought on stage to briefly address the crowd at the end of the show. Needless to say, it was an epic night for those lucky enough to witness it.

With Album of the Year only a few days away from release (pre-order here at BlackMilk.biz or on iTunes), Black is anxious to perform new music from the album, and to give his fans something to talk about. Click the images below to view flyers for the upcoming release parties.

Black Milk will be traveling to Brooklyn, NY to celebrate the album’s release at Southpaw on Tuesday, Sept 14. Also performing will be Sean Price, Elzhi, and Guilty Simpson, along with Brooklyn’s own DJ Spinna on the wheels. This event will be 18+. Order tickets here.

On Friday, September 24, Black will be making his San Francisco debut at the venue Mighty. The heavyweight lineup will be in effect with Detroit-representatives Elzhi and DJ House Shoes making the trip. This event will be 21+. You can order your tickets here.

Last, and absolutely not least, Black Milk is throwing a massive album release party in his hometown of Detroit at St. Andrews Hall on Saturday, September 18.  In addition to his usual band of AB & Daru, the Will Sessions band will be backing him, along with DJ Dez on turntables.  If you were at the sold-out show for the Black Milk Big Band with Will Sessions in May ’09 at the Magic Stick (or if you’ve been catching the rehearsals on Ustream), then you know how exciting this show will be. For those who weren’t there, here’s what it sounded like:

The party will also double as the homecoming of HexMurda, who will be making his first appearance since his stroke in 2010.  Guaranteed to be a night to remember for Detroit. Only $5 to get in. No pre-sale tickets… just show up. 18+.

Full North American and European tours in support of the album will be coming shortly.
